STRENGTH IN SERVICE

My strength is not my own.

The mace of Hanuman is the weapon of the strong who kneel. He could level mountains, and chose to carry one across the sky for a single life.

That is what the Gada asks. Not that you become strong, but that you decide where your strength is aimed. At yourself, or at the weight someone else cannot lift alone.

Strength was lent to me. What I do with it is the only thing that is mine.

The weapon of the devoted

Hanuman's power flows from devotion. not pride. The mace is never raised for himself - only ever lifted on behalf of someone he serves.

Power held in trust

What you can do is not what you own. Strength is lent to you so that you can carry the weight others cannot.
Hold it lightly; use it heavily.

The kneeling strong

The strongest figure in the story is the one who bows.To kneel in service is not to shrink, it is to point all that strength at something worth lifting.

He could have ruled. He chose to serve. That choice was the strength.

Hanuman's Story

Hanuman was the strongest figure in the entire epic of the Mahabharata. He was immortal, could fly, change his size at will, and level anything in his path. He had every reason for pride. He chose devotion instead.

When the brother of the man he served lay dying, the only cure was a single healing herb on a far mountain. Hanuman could not tell which herb it was. So he lifted the whole mountain and carried it across the sky. The entire weight of it, for one life.

That is the question the Gada, the mace, puts to you. Not how strong you are. Where you aim it.
